High-Value Suite
The Forefront Protection Suite will launch on November 1, 2009, as the next generation of the Forefront Security Suite.
In this release, Microsoft is adding significant value for customers with improved versions of existing products and
brand new technologies to help protect businesses against malware, spam, and malicious Web sites.
The products included in Forefront Protection Suite and their availability in the second half of CY2009 are outlined in the following chart.

Licensing
Forefront Protection Suite is licensed
through Microsoft Volume Licensing
(MVLS) in the Microsoft Online Services
program on a per-user or per-device
subscription model.
This license includes all product upgrades,
relevant antivirus or antispam scanning
engine updates, and security signatures for
all components during the license period.
Customers can license Forefront Protection
Suite as part of the following Microsoft
licensing programs:

- Select
- Academic Select
- Government Select
- Open Value
- Open Value Subscription
- Server Provider License Agreement
- High Volume Services
- Campus and School Agreements
Licensing for Third-Party Technology
Several components of the Forefront
Protection Suite include protective
technologies from industry-leading security
partners. These are licensed as part of
the base subscription; customers are
not required to purchase any additional
licenses to access their functionality.
Upgrade Rights
Customers who purchased Forefront
Security Suite automatically get access to
Forefront Protection Suite, as well as any
new products that are added to the suite
while they have a valid license agreement.
Downgrade Rights
Purchasers of Forefront Protection Suite will
be licensed to use the previous versions of
all component products.
Customers will also be licensed to use:

Microsoft Antigen for Exchange, Microsoft Antigen for SMTP Gateways, and Microsoft Antigen Spam Manager to protect Exchange 2003 and Exchange 2000 environments.
- Microsoft Antigen for SharePoint to protect SharePoint Portal Server 2005 and Windows® SharePoint Services 2.0 environments.
- Microsoft Antigen for Instant Messaging to protect Live Communications Server 2005 environments.
Software Assurance and Other Benefits
All the component products of Forefront Protection Suite, except for Forefront Online Protection for Exchange, include Software Assurance as part of the subscription license. It gives customers access to unlimited Web incident and 24x7 phone support. For more benefit details, visit www.microsoft.com/forefront/stirling. Under the Technical Resources tab, click Support Options. (Note that Software Assurance benefits must be activated in order to be used.)
Forefront Online Protection for Exchange also offers Web and 24x7 phone support as part of the Forefront Protection Suite subscription.

Pricing
Forefront Protection Suite is priced per user or per device, per month. Following is a list of estimated retail prices for Forefront Protection Suite, including the calculation for the estimated cost for a typical one-year or three-year license agreement. Note that because Forefront Protection Suite is a monthly subscription product, customers can add it to an existing Volume Licensing agreement for the months that remain on the agreement.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Where do I download the Forefront Protection Suite?
When customers buy Forefront Protection Suite, they can download all component products from MVLS (or VLSC). Look for individual product names under the Server category.
- How do I activate my Forefront Protection Suite products?
Activation for individual components varies by product:
Forefront Client Security.
Download and install the full version of the software from MVLS (VLSC). Customers will be asked to activate their subscriptions. This is simply a registration step that gives instructions on submitted malware samples; no activation occurs on the back end.
Forefront server security products
(Forefront for Exchange, Forefront for SharePoint, and Forefront for Office Communications Server). Copy the static product key from the MVLS download page and paste it into the product. Customers will also be asked to enter the end date of their agreement and their Microsoft licensing agreement number. A seven-digit number is required; if the agreement number is longer, they will enter just the first seven digits.
Forefront TMG Web Protection Service.
Simply enter the agreement number (again, a seven-digit number) and the end date of the agreement.
Forefront Online Protection for Exchange.
This online service requires activation and provisioning through MVLS (VLSC), where customers will be asked to enter MX record information.
- Is Forefront Protection Suite part of the Enterprise Client Access License (ECAL)?
Yes, Forefront Protection Suite is included in ECAL.
- Do customers get a discount if they purchase Forefront Protection Suite and then upgrade to ECAL?
Yes. Customers will receive a credit for the Forefront Protection Suite in the amount of its discounted value in ECAL.
